X-Men Regenesis logos

21.12.11

Now that these have been on the shelves for a few months, I feel like I can finally post them all here. I would ramble on about the process behind these but I’m already doing that for an unnamed project and don’t want to repeat myself. So for now you can check out this interview I did with Marvel back when these were first trickling out. But this was one of those once in a lifetime jobs and I gave it everything I had. The response has been great and for that I am thankful/relieved.

I was also behind the new overall cover designs and the Regenesis banner design. There wasn’t much on this job I didn’t have a hand in. Marvel was great about letting me see this trough instead of just me turning in a bunch of logos and running away.

The Defenders

27.11.11

The “jumpsuit gentleman” Alejandro Arbona contacted me about making a new logo for the Defenders comic Marvel is pushing. I read the title back in art school when Erik Larson was doing it. The title has had the same logo for quite sometime now. So I tried to send a tip of the hat towards that but come with my own stamp on it. I struggled a lot early on with this but I think it came together really well in the end. That’s mostly due to Alejandro’s input. He was a big part of moving this in a good looking direction. He’s good people.

But I think this thing sings on the variant cover by Stuart Immonen. The mixed opacity plays better with a background and really shows off what I was hoping to achieve with this. Good stuff.

Tweaks and Twitter

14.11.11

Some small tweak have been made to the site and there is also a TWITTER button on the side now with the other links. So if you’re into that kind of thing, you can follow my ramblings.

Age of X Hardcover

11.11.11

I had nothing to do with putting this Age of X hardcover together. I only designed the event for the single issues but this is utterly fantastic. Whoever at Marvel took my stuff and ran with it like this did a great job.

Recent DC Comics logo works

23.10.11

Sometimes you can go home agian. When I was a fresh faced youngster starting out as a letterer in-house at DC Comics, Kenny Lopez was my art director. During my time on staff Kenny went and took a job upstairs as the cover art director. And this year after a long absence of working together, I found myself working for Kenny again. First on the Citizen Cold logo for the Flashpoint mini-series. And also for the Deadman and the Flying Grayson’s cover that studio-mate Cliff Chiang and I did together. Those jobs lead to me coming in on the new 52 for the Blue Beetle and Hawk & Dove logos. I was honored to a part of the massive DC relaunch event and glad to work with Klo again.

Somewhere in there Cliff was struggling to make a Wonder Woman logo for a promo image he was drawing. I jumped in and within a few hours of him standing over my shoulder with some art direction, we had a logo. It got kicked around and it came back to us that this was going to be the logo for the series. Easiest design job I’ve ever had. Cliff then threw the distress on there that you see in his fantastic covers for the book.

Wonder Woman is by far my favorite for the new 52. If you aren’t on it yet, you need to get yourself a late pass.
